Last Friday, December 7, I had the pleasure of meeting Jen Sincero, a #1 NY Times best-selling author. I discovered she was doing a book signing and talk at one of our local bookstores a few months back and immediately purchased a ticket to the event. If you don’t know who this bad ass woman is, do yourself a favor and read the book that put her on the map: You Are a Bad Ass. (There are two other books in her Bad Ass series, but I recommend you start with this). This book launched my path to self-improvement and frankly, was the reason I finally started this blog.
I was lucky enough to be in the front row and of course, I was geeking out about this. The room was full of (mostly) women who were all there for the same reason: to hear about Jen’s new book and what advice she had for being a bad ass woman. As silly as it sounds, I could feel the aura of awesomeness in the room when Jen started her bad ass pep talk.
Here are the takeaways:
- You have a choice. You choose how you react to things. You choose the words you use when you speak to people. Your choices are monumental, because the way you choose to perceive your reality is the world you create for yourself. Simply put: positive vibes = positive life.
- You are going to die. If you knew today was your last day on Earth, would you live it differently? Would you be kinder and tell the ones you love how much they mean to you? News flash: you WILL die one day. Life is short, so act accordingly.
- You are an energetic creature living in an energetic world. What type of energy do you project? The energy you project is the energy you attract. If you’re walking around complaining about your life, odds are you’ll attract the same types of people, because misery loves company. So naturally, if you’re choosing happiness and positivity no matter what the situation, the Universe will respond accordingly
Our “homework” was simple: Don’t be a jerk. Pretend tomorrow is your last day on Earth. Act as if you’re already living your reality. My reality is that I am a successful blogger and entrepreneur bringing women together from all walks of life. Act it. Live it. Be it. Fake it til you make it if you have to.
Meeting Jen and having her sign all three of my books was a true pleasure. She’s so down-to-Earth and projects positivity in every interaction. And her message for everyone is simple.
You are a bad ass.
